28 Countries and Counting: Our Vision
In 1900, Evangelicals numbered
1% in Latin America (700,000). In 2000, the population had grown to
10% (50 million)!
•Growth has brought challenges. Some have estimated that as
many as 8,000 leave the Catholic church every day and desire
discipleship. There is a lack of leadership in the Latin American
church. How will we meet this need? In 1929, SETECA (Seminario Teológico Centroamericano) was founded. In the last 80 years, SETECA has graduated over 2,700 men and women from over 20 different countries who are serving in more than 28 countries. We believe that Guatemala and SETECA our strategic spots for ministry. Not only is SETECA training leaders in Guatemala, they are now training missionaries that will minister in Europe, Africa, and Asia. CAM's sister organization, FAM, was created to meet that need. FAM's vision is to send Hispanic missionaries to places like North Africa and Turkey. Why is the Hispanic world a strategic place for reaching Africa and the Middle East for Christ? Hispanics have many advantages: 1) Their cultural emphasis on the family; 2) Their skin tone; 3) Non-western background; and 4) Lower financial threshold. (See article by Jerry Lara). Our vision is to see the lost saved and the church strengthened. Will you partner with us? |
